Periodontitis is a chronic disease of the gums and tooth-supporting bone and tissue. The disease is caused by bacteria that form in insufficiently removed plaque. Inflammation of the gums develops, and bleeding of the gums may already be noticeable. If left untreated, the inflammation progresses in depth, leading to gum pockets and detaching the bone from the tooth. In extreme cases, this can lead to tooth loosening and tooth loss. But it does not have to get that far! Even with gum inflammation, periodontitis can be prevented by regular professional dental cleanings. In advanced disease, it is possible to stop periodontitis by deeper cleaning. In addition to optimal dental care at home, it is important that you make use of the regular follow-up examinations and professional dental cleanings in our practice.
